Dr Masoud Mohandes

About

Dr Masoud Mohandes is a highly specialized researcher with a multidisciplinary background, holding dual PhDs in Mechanical Engineering and Structural Engineering. Currently serving as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Southampton, his primary research is focused on the real-time Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of ageing railway bridges. By leveraging advanced machine learning algorithms and complex vibration analysis, he evaluates time-dependent structural performance to ensure the safety, resilience, and longevity of critical transport infrastructure.

Prior to his current fellowship, Dr Mohandes conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Naples Federico II, focusing on the nonlinear analysis of historical masonry constructions, specifically accounting for material deterioration and previous damage. His extensive academic background in composite structures and damage identification is strongly complemented by over five years of industry experience as a lead design engineer for static and fixed equipment, providing him with a profound understanding of both theoretical modelling and practical, real-world engineering applications.
